This is the fourth time Dhoni has played more than 20 deliveries in an IPL match but failed to hit a boundary.
Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals met in Dubai in the 50th IPL match of the season. At the end of the day, Delhi won the match by three wickets after a tough fight. CSK could only manage 136 runs in the match. Dhoni’s slow knock of 18 runs in 27 balls was criticized.
However, Yellow Brigade coach Stephen Fleming is giving more for the pitch than Dhoni’s fault. In a virtual press conference at the end of the match, Fleming claimed, “Dhoni not only had trouble running fast, the pitch was not conducive to stroke. We were going to win the match by 137 runs. Playing big shots on this pitch, fast. Running was very difficult for both of them and both the teams face this problem towards the end of the innings. If we had scored 10-15 more runs, we could have won the match.
This is the fourth time Dhoni has played more than 20 deliveries in an IPL match but failed to hit a boundary. This has not happened more than once to any other captain in the IPL. But Fleming does not see any lack in the desire to run fast, but considers Delhi’s controlled bowling and pitch as the main reason for this whole matter. “The biggest challenge now is to understand the pitches of three different regions. But there was no lack of will. We needed to manage the innings after two mistakes and Delhi bowled very deftly in the last five overs,” said the CSK coach.
