IPL 2021: How Anil Kumble’s advice helped Harpreet Brar bag wickets of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell

In the first half of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Punjab Kings off-spinner Harpreet Brar took valuable wickets off 24 balls against Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Glenn Maxwell’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) its chief guests finally secured an easy win for the Punjab Kings by 3/19 and 25 runs.

The all-rounder didn’t disappoint the Punjab management and made the most of his chance to give his side a memorable win against a top team like RCB. Brar, who had been the franchise since 2018, finally got to play his fourth game for the franchise, primarily owing to RCB’s recent struggles while dealing with off-spinners.

Asked about the feeling of getting the three big players out, Brar said it was surprising to see Kohli get the first wicket. “Virat Kohli was very happy to get my first wicket. I didn’t even dream about it, and he hit a six and a four in the first two balls of my spell. In the next ball, I dismissed Glenn Maxwell and also took the wicket of AB de Villiers. It’s getting better, ”Harpreet Brar told India Today.

The all-rounder added that when he got to the dressing room he realized the glory of taking three big wickets for the team. “I didn’t feel anything on the ground. Everyone congratulated me. We won the match. However, after returning to the team dressing room, I realized its importance,” Brar recalled.

The 25-year-old said head coach Anil Kumble’s advice had helped him simplify and simplify the basics of how to work well against RCB’s heavy batting unit.

“This was my fourth match for the Punjab Kings. I have played only three matches in the previous two seasons and failed to take a single wicket. So there was some panic, but Anil Kumble’s gentle advice boosted my confidence. ”

“Anil Kumble has a soft corner for spinners. We (spinners) were practicing in the nets before the match. He came to me and said, Stay simple, Brar, stick to your foundation. Brar also recounted how Kumble told him to land the ball in the right place and to get the wicket by sticking to the basics.

So just keep landing your balls in that area and you will eventually get the wickets,” said Brar.“He told me ‘every bowler has a spot, where he wants to pitch every ball, be it a finger spinner wrist-spinner or for that matter a fast bowler.
