IPL 2021 – Rajasthan Royals sign Glenn Phillips of New Zealand to replace Jos Butler

This development occurs as Butler is dropped from the rest of the season due to the impending birth of his second child. Rajasthan Royals have signed New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman Glenn Phillips to replace Jos Butler for the second half of IPL 2021.

In addition to playing 25 T20s for his country, he has played in the CPL, England’s Vitality Blast, and the Hundred. Phillips, who is currently with the Barbados Royals in the CPL starting next week in the West Indies, is set to join the Royals squad in the United Arab Emirates on September 19.

Phillips hit a 46 ball century against the West Indies at Mount Maunganui last November, breaking Colin Munro’s record for the fastest century by a New Zealand batsman in a T20. In addition, he has scored three more centuries in the T20 cricket – two for Auckland and one for Jamaica Tallawar.

Phillips’ 506 Twenty20 runs came at a strike rate of 149.70, with most of his innings coming out of the top three.

In Butler’s absence, the Royals will be without their three England stars, Joffra Archer will be ruled out of all cricket for the rest of the year due to an elbow fracture, and Ben Stokes is taking a break from the game due to mental illness. Before the end of the IPL season, the Royals, who scored 254 runs at a strike rate of 153.01, including 124 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, must miss Butler.
