T20 World Cup 2021: Shreyas Iyer to replace Suryakumar Yadav in Indian squad?

Shreyas Iyer, the former capital of Delhi, has been in good form since returning from a shoulder injury. Iyer, who led the Capitals to the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) final, was ready to lead the team this season as well, but suffered a shoulder injury in the limited-overs series against England earlier this year.

The Mumbai batsman has averaged 42 in 22 ODIs for India and 28.94 in T20I matches, with a strike-rate of 133.81 with three half-centuries. In just four matches in IPL 2021, Iyer has already scored 124 runs with the highest score of 47 not out. He is one of the three standby players announced by the Indian selectors for the T20 World Cup, which starts later this month in the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

According to ICC rules, India can still make changes to their final squad till October 10 and Iyer could replace Suryakumar Yadav, who has been struggling with form since the IPL moved to the United Arab Emirates. Yadav’s 33 off 2 balls against the Delhi Capitals was his best innings after scoring a single at the start of the second leg of the IPL 2021. Iyer also scored an unbeaten run but Sharjah’s tough batting conditions led his team to victory.

“I found it really amazing to bat and take my team to the end. It was a low scoring game so I decided to stay in the end even if I moved out of order. I supported myself and I supported my instincts. Whatever I did In that situation, I knew I would win the match. When you feel positive, everything goes your way. He (Ashwin) came and he was really positive, “Shreyas said after the match against host broadcaster Star Sports. Mumbai is over.

“His desire was to take as many singles as possible and turn the strike and it lasted till the last two overs. After that, he started looking at the ball well and decided that he would take the bowlers. We both wanted that batting. Until the last ball, it seemed so. ‘I’ll get off, you just try to stay until the end and make sure you win the match for the team.’ This change has happened in the last two years and we have created 2019 that environment, ’he said.
