West Indies announce squad for T20 World Cup; Gayle, Russell headline line-up, Ravi Rampaul returns

The defending champion West Indies announced the following team for the T-20 World Cup held in October-November on Thursday in the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

The West Indies recalled veteran pacer, Ravi Rampal, six years later when they announced their squad for the Twenty20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates and Oman on Thursday in October-November.

Rampal, a member of the 2012 World Cup-winning team, played his last T20 match against Sri Lanka in 2015 and returned to consolidate a strong-looking lineup that would be an unprecedented third title for a team to win.

Cricket West Indies chief selector Roger Harper said: “Rampal is an experienced bowler. He will increase his chances of taking wickets in power play and mid-stage and provide another option for death overs.”

All-rounder Roston Chase has received his first call-up to the Twenty20 squad.

“Roston Chase has shown that he is a very talented T20 player. He did well in the Caribbean Premier League in 2020 and has done well in the 2021 edition so far.

“He has shown the ability to make innings together while scoring fast at low dot-ball percentages. He will be an excellent fuel for the team’s explosive players.”

The West Indies, who are in Group 1 along with Australia and South Africa, will face England in the opening match of the tournament on October 23 in Dubai.

Kieron Pollard (captain), Dwayne Bravo, Nicholas Pooran, Roston Chase, Fabian Allen, Andre Fletcher, Chris Gayle, Shimron Hetmyer, Evin Lewis, Obed McCoy, Lendl Simmons, Ravi Rampaul, Andre Russell, Oshane Thomas, Hayden Walsh Jr

Traveling Reserves: Darren Bravo, Jason Holder, Sheldon Cottrell, Akeal Hosein
